Bonsai Garden Day 2

I bought seeds for "Bald Cypress" and "Texas Ebony" trees to grow as bonsai trees. Hopefully a few will survive to maturation. Each of the pots has at least 2 seeds, and a couple pots have 4. I'm only using these pots to start them, I will re-pot as necessary. The best ones will go into a 'bonsai forest' pot with at least 3 but probably 5. I've been told that growing a tree from a seed is a 'long-term project' ~duh, and "ambitious". I plan on growing these til I die and passing them on to whomever is in my life then.
I've read up on it a little and apparently I cannot even begin to train them until they are about 3 years old, or until they have a healthy trunk.
I should mention here that this is the first time I've set out to grow my own plants, at all. I did receive a plant that I've been taking care of, it's doing alright -the nursery that raised it let it stay in the pot it came in too long. Until it grows a healthy root system I'll have to use a support stake. I also started some dwarf sunflowers so I have something to look forward to this year. My grandmother on my dad's side has a green thumb to rival any, and I hope I got some of that skill hiding in here somewhere.

***UPDATE: None of the Cypress seeds have sprouted yet. I thought this was weird since I planted them before the Ebony (only a day, but I've had 5 new ebony sprouts come up in the same amount of time). I went and broke up the soil on the first pot and I found that both seeds haven't even split yet. I don't know what the deal is, I followed the germination instructions. Luckily I didn't use all of the seeds. I'll try a different method of germination for some of the rest.
